Bird the West Desert & Pony Express Trail

Experience the birds of the West Desert and the ruggedness of the Pony Express Trail firsthand.

Description

Bird the West Desert and the Pony Express Trail. Experience the birds of the West Desert and the ruggedness of the Pony Express Trail firsthand. We'll bird a loop starting at Stockton in Tooele County traveling to Clover Springs CG in Johnson Pass, then we will loop around to the Pony Express Trail and head back over Lookout Pass. If time allows we will finish up with a stop at Fitzgerald WMA. Highlights could include desert specialties such as Gray Vireo, Gray Flycatcher, Bushtits, Juniper Titmice, Sagebrush Sparrows, Brewer's Sparrows, Black-throated Gray Warblers, and Horned Larks.

Participants are advised to bring insect repellent, sunscreen, a packed lunch, and plenty of water. Once birding along the loop, there is only one stop that has restroom facilities.
